Use of full ASCII table, background colors

Not sure if anyone has already requested this, but would it be possible make each object in the game (enemies, floor types, walls, items, etc.) definable with three attributes: ASCII Character, foreground color, and background color? Not only would the game look more like Rogue (it used a vast number of symbols) but would also solve the problem of not being able to see what floor type is under items (items, would inheret the background color of the tile they are on)

Anyway, great game!

I would only request using utf8 as character encoding. This would greatly increase the numer of available characers :-) and it would be nice not having to switch the encoding in my console emularto to CP1250 every time I run the game ;-)

I like the idea. I always enjoy customizing outlook of the game for my taste, and there is no reason why to restrict players with no-such otption, except if author little lazy or too busy.. :>

That is up to the player..isn't it ? If he wishes so.. why to force him otherwise ?
