Hi guys, this is my first post.  Man, I love this game. 

This game started interestingly with a double shotgun in a vault on level 1, so I picked up a point of reloader after 2 of TaN (I tend to get TaN first on games where I'm not decided as to the kind of build I'm going to play.  On level 3 or 4 I found an advanced combat shotgun, and that would be my mainstay throughout the rest of the game.  Although I equipped an advanced rocketlauncher for the last 2 levels, I think I must have fired it only about 20 times, compared to hundreds of times for the shotgun.

By the time I found the Anti-Freak Jackal on level 14 my advanced combat shotgun was better than it was, and it was much better than the Assault Shotgun was when I found it.  Later on it I even left behind a Jackhammer because the combat shotgun was just much more efficient for the shells as my general purpose weapon, and a Nuclear BFG had taken up semi-permanent residency in my secondary slot.  The Jackhammer also had a nasty reload time.  In the end, the advanced combat shotgun had a firing time of .7, reload of .1, 10 shell magazine and did 9d3 damage.  My traits lowered the firing time to .5 and added 3 more damage onto each shot.  The SoB might not seem worth it for a character using a combat shotgun, but it was great doing enough damage to knock back barons even at the outer edge of my los, and enough to knock them back 2-3 squares from up close. It may also seem strange to only have 1 point of reloader for a shotgun character, but my reload mods covered me easily.  If i had gotten shottyman however, the Jackhammer may have faired better in comparison to my combat shotty.

In any case, the advanced combat shotgun was just a monster.  I could spam it at monsters on the end of my LOS and by the time the front monster died, the monsters behind it were all ready to die the turn they entered my los (or before).  It was constantly pushing mancubi, arachnatrons and barons into the lava, and could easily keep up with archvile rezzing.  On top of that, I made do with 3-5 slots of shells throughout the whole game, only running low at the very end when i was skipping lots of levels with homing phase devices and just starting near stairs.  It really reminded me of the Angel of Marksmanship challenge's advanced pistol in how disgustingly strong it got, but I found it to be much better than an advanced pistol because of the huge AoE damage, and how i could spend more traits on buffing my defense.   

I was a real tank in this game, with level 3 TaN, IM and Badass.  For most of the game I was also wearing fully mobility, durability and protection enhanced red armors.  I think you need that kind of protection when you go in the thick of it with a shotgun and don't get cateye or intuition.  My speed was pretty good too, with 1 level of HR, mobility upgraded armor and phaseshift boots (the badass completed negated the extra knockback from the boots)

I had a lot of fun this game!  Next I guess I should try for a normal game win in ultraviolence, but the enemies' increased accuracy really bothers me as it screws up shotgun games, which I find only work really well if you take advantage of running to dodge- when the dodging doesn't work an early pack of hell knights tends to kill my shotgun characters.  :(
