Ability to choose gender

I know it seems simple enough, but I personally think that the ability to play as a male or female marine might make the game a bit more interesting.

I would need more people that would want that. Actually the marine is supposed to be genderless now :-). Also -- what would be the difference (we don't want to get sexist here) -- and if none, then it wouldn't add anything to gameplay.

Yes, Its pretty much a useless arbitary choice which just further delays getting into the game.

As I have said extensively on the Galciv 2 forums - Use your frigging imagination! You do not have to have the game saying "Hi, Welcome to DoomRL! You are a female marine." for you to imagine who you are playing as, For all you know you could just be an 8 year old who heard what was on the marine intercom and wanted vengence.

Admittedly the game says you are a marine that got left behind by the task force, But thats beside the point.

You do not need to be fed everything with a spoon, Use your imagination!

You know what I just noticed? The @ representing player is displayed in white (when no armor is worn). That means the marine is a white guy. DoomRL is racist! It's because its creator is white! Ha!
We want a menu where you can select ethnicity!

Also we may suspect that the current player character is heterosexual by default. Darn you, homophobes! We want gay marines, too! We're strong in numbers! (approx. 7% of the population acc. to some research). Make the @ pink, darnit!

We hope you yeld to our demands and code those changes on first priority basis! So next time we enter the Phobos base we can see a message text like:
Welcome to Doom Roguelike. You're black female gay left-winged Buddhist marine with 20% disability. You feel a scent of death in the air. [more]

I guess this would make DoomRL as much Political Correct as it's possible (did I missed any important social groups? if so, I apologize)
