-- General ---------------------------------------------------

Before him 395 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 354 of those were killed.
6 of those were killed by something unknown.
2 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 23 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 10 souls claim to have killed him...
1 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
8 killed the bastard and survived.
1 showed that it can outsmart hell itself.

3 million points!  I don't even know how scoring is tabulated...

Yet another win with the Blaster - what can I say, ammo-free means that I can store double as many medkits and other lifesavers, and its amazing firing rate is rather beneficial too.  Actually I was pretty annoyed that it was another Blaster win that I played a few games with the intent of getting a (non-Ao100) win without the Blaster, which I did achieve.

One really "welp" moment was when I had an advanced rocket launcher and saw the missile launcher on the ground.  I had moved right next to the missile launcher, dropped my rocket launcher (to free up inventory space), walked onto the missile launcher, then was hit by a mancubus...destroying BOTH launchers (it was exposed to a corner around which was the unseen mancubus, oops)!  So I ended up with no rocket launching capabilities for quite a few floors until I found another one.

By now my build and my strategy for Ao100 is pretty much standard.  This time I actually got a unique pistol before even taking dual gunner, so I was able to invest in one more Ironman.  I've realized that dealing damage more quickly is even more of a priority than tanking in N! when corpses randomly revive around you so Son of a Bitch comes BEFORE any tanking traits.  The tanking traits won't save you in really sticky situations - they only serve to give you a chance to recover from minor mistakes, which are bound to occur in a 5 hour game (shorter than my 8 hour UV Ao100, once again my N! run was faster than my UV run, just like my vanilla wins).

I no longer value phase devices.  Even in the past I would only use them if I had 3 or more, so I could use another one immediately after teleporting to a bad situation, I had many N! Ao100 runs where even after using 3-4, I would still be in a worse situation than the one I originally wanted to get out of!  There are always crowds of monsters EVERYWHERE!  Yet I carried around so many of them, never using one.  Homing phase devices, however, are still very nice.  Especially when invulnerable.

Pistols are the primary weapons, rockets to create new holes in walls (and that's it - they're way too weak against archvile/mancubi/revenant hordes), and BFG's to clear such hordes - usually required 3 consecutive shots in the same area to really thin them out so I could resume with the pistols.

Doubled powerups and small health recovery helps offset the danger by a lot.  Berserking actually lasts a significant while, and having small globes/medkits heal >50% makes them much more worthwhile.

Badass always seems so nice on paper, but choosing between it and any of the traits already in my build?  It doesn't help as much.  That last level of ironman seems to work out better.

By the time I found the Beretta, there was no point in using it.  I bet it'd really kick ass in 6-fire mode with full Son of a Gun/Bitch though.

The BFG 10k is way overrated.  Whenever I tried it to use against the 'hordes' I mentioned earlier, the first shot would hit, and knockback, then the subsequent 4 shots wouldn't hit.  I ended up ditching it for the trusty regular BFG9000.

I actually was able to keep the Planeshift Armor for many levels, which is rare for me.  Usually I get my armor blown off in a few levels at most.

I can't get my >2mb demos to attach to the forum...disappointing.

Impressive, most impressive. I can't even think of beating Ao100 on HNTR...

You say that dealing damage more quickly is important, yet you didn't get Finesse. Why was that?

I'll give you that you couldn't really replace any other 2 traits for it, but...

Well I definitely still want almost everything else I picked, so the question was not "Should I pick finesse? (and ditch one of intuition, cateye or tanking traits)", but rather "Should I pick finesse over son of a bitch?"

Son of a bitch is better because it's better at countering the effects of enemy protection (armor).

It might be worth trying taking finesse over a few levels of tough as nails, or ironman, but with son of a gun/bitch maximized, the damage per second is already pretty good, so some buffer against making mistakes is useful.

I'm starting to forgo cateye when I play now, though - as from what I've gathered, it's gone from the new version.  So now I can take finesse when the time comes, although hellrunner looks somewhat attractive as well, as you can run away more quickly and perhaps dodge a few extra shots while doing so.
