-- General ---------------------------------------------------

Before him 64 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 47 of those were killed.
1 of those was killed by something unknown.
And 11 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 5 souls claim to have killed him...
3 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
2 killed the bastard and survived.

I decided to play some Doom RL, as I was having a some time to spare. I started a normal M-game with no challengemodes, but decided to go for pistols. The run itself was quite uneventful until I got to Hell, there I met a crapload of Barons and Knights, had to skip quite many of them. My favourite was a corner with 1 Baron and about 4 Knights. Promply descended to the next floor.

I decided to have a try at Spider's Lair. Because I found an Invul. Globe in the same room with it's entrance. Godmode wore off just as I was down to last spider in meleerange.

Magazine mods really are wonderful in pistols. with M2 on both pistols, I could shoot 4 times more without needing to reload. I want to think it saved me in the Spider Lair. (I see it as 8x 2d4+6 if all of them hit.)

Im not really that good player as my rank suggests, I got Blades profile, as I wanted to try Ao100.

SImple - when in a pistol run, you will get as much ammo as possible, then cycle it out for other stuff, like medkits and armor, whenever necessary, until you're down to three-five stacks. When you reach that point, you're going to need some POWER INVENTORY MANAGEMENT if you find even /more/ medkits/armor/nukes/crappy uniques you're lugging around just for the 'He found the Piece of Crap at Level -3.14!'.
Works for me pretty well. :D

Oh okay.  Im too lazy to pickup and drop so generally i stop pick-up at 400 rounds. Just done 100% light travel with 300 rounds max so 600 rounds looked a bit excessive to me :P

It sure works well, I'd say a bit too well. Imho, guns are overpowered. I found some nuclear plasma rifle i was like geez what's this crap i want my 6 round thing back.

I was also a pistol lover for the longest time - until I started using the Plasma Rifle and finding it even better.

As for the amount of ammo to carry?  For me, 600 was actually my minimum, and I'd try to carry around 900 or more rounds.  If you're at a deeper level and there's no captains around, you can go through ammo pretty quickly fighting through crowds of high hp enemies.  (And now that I play with chainguns it's 800 minimum and 1100 optimal, yikes.)

Magazine mods are pretty great for pistols though, especially for your off-hand (prepared) slot.  I'm not sure if other players do this often, but I actually use regular reload very often (with dualgunner), and then only dual reload once the regular reload is over and no enemies have come into view, as dual reloading right off the bat could take over 2 seconds, plenty of time for enemies to come into view AND get a shot off.  I like to have a damage modified pistol for my main weapon, though, to give that extra edge against armored foes.  With this combination I might fire, say, four dualshots off to kill an enemy I see, single reload, then notice an enemy has come into view while I was single reloading, then still have four dualshots remaining as my primary pistol has 6/6 ammo while my secondary has 4/8 ammo.  If I had dual reloaded in this situation, that enemy that just approached would have likely gotten a shot off.

600 ammos ? You must be playing N! or UV i guess.

I swear I ended a run with 300 ammos as a maximum on NTR.

I also single reload often to finish the work. As mods I tend to use reload mods bc the bonus is great. Double reload with double modded gun is only 1,2s...

I've also tried to only reload my main hand pistol, it's quite effective. Too bad I've developed a bad habit of slamming the "R" and reloading both weapons.

As for the ammo situation, I usually stock up on 10mm, since I've had runs where I tried to keep it decent and ran out in Hell. So bascially Chained Court and Captains are a great source for stocking up in earlier levels. But then again, if I have a stack wiht say... 23 rounds left, I'll drop them in a favor of a med-kit.

Love to play with pistols though. Next I'm trying AoB.
