[E|99%|YAVP] First Win, Pathetic As It May Be :D
« on: August 28, 2009, 03:14 »

Yeah, win on easy mode isn't that impressive (if I win in the future, I'll only post if it is actually notable, lol), but it was fairly satisfying considering the problems I was having with the game (for some reason, the game kept crashing on me for several characters before the issue mysteriously disappeared...).

Was an interesting game. Went fairly haphazardly on the talents, besides the early focus of acquiring intuition 3, which proved to be the turning point for me in regards to the later areas of the game (as in, I didn't walk into deadly situuation that I could've otherwise handled from afar). Got some normal items and uniques to drop that proved to be very useful to getting through the game:
1) Missile Launcher. Once acquired, this paired with intuition proved critical to late-game success, and was great for sniping.
2) Jackhammer. Didn't get it until fairly late, but became my staple attack choice at that point, only otherwise using the Plasma Rifle.
Used the chaingun alot early on in the game to mow through the weaker enemies too.

One thing that also proved to be a major point of my success this game was the proper usage of Tactics. Previously, I never made use of the ability to Run, and actually putting that to use early on with the shotgun, and later on to dodge rockets from some of the enemies (not to mention surviving going down the stairs into a group of enemies on lv20ish...).

Had a thermie, and being thoroughly spoiled, I was sadly disappointed to not find a method of invulnerability for lvl 25. Also, never used the Hell Staff. Wasn't even quite sure how it worked anyways :/

I hope that next time I post it will be something a bit more respectable. What I'm shooting for is a Medium AoMarksmanship victory, so I'll just have to see (and pray for pistol uniques...)

Nice work.  When I started to use the 'running' tactic, it also helped my survival rate go up a lot.  It's key against arachnotrons, captains, and commandos.

The hell staff acts like a regular phase device if you're not tired, and is not consumed upon use.

Being the guy who sucks with everything but pistols (I'm not used to the fact that rapidfire builds take a whole turn to fire :P), I can say that AoMR isn't actually that hard. Hell, the only reason I haven't done UV/N! AoMR is because of AoI (I WILL KILL YOU FOR THIS ABOMINATION KORNEL >:( ). I recommend going SoG>SoG>DG>EE>SoG>SoB>SoB>SoB>whatever, because by SoGx3, you're already firing fast enough to kill pretty much anything in your way, and reloading's a bitch in AoMR, so you want to kill them before you run out of bullets, and hit with almost all of your bullets (hence the EE). That's also why magazine mods are UNGODLY AWESOME in AoMR games. Also, pistol uniques are totally optional in AoMR from what I can tell, because I haven't found any, and still come out on top of a dead cybie :D
Time to kill myself again from stairs stuck in lava... :(

Generic, do you want my player.dat?  That'll let you play AoMr on N!  Shouldn't UV be pretty easily unlocked, though?

I also started as a player who loved pistols most - all my earlier posted mortems were pistols as well, but it was UV/N! AoMs that forced me to convert: playing pistols without uniques or advanced pistols just didn't have enough power (damage per second).
