Request for forum feature [DONE]
« on: May 04, 2006, 05:52 »

Hello, Recently we have had a minor deluge of spam, I would like to propose that moderators can I.P ban unregistered posters.

This means that the next time a bot posts a link to porn, The moderating team can block the bots I.P adress from posting unregistered.

Or, An alternative would be for unregistered posters to have to type in an authorisation code, Similar to what you have to do to register on most forums but on a post-by-post basis.

Lets face it, No one wants spam.

Let us do something about it.

Good idea, though I never heard of IP ban of unregistered users before, so it might require Kornel to write code, instead of using already made extension.

The IP BAN is a bad idea, for some isp's use the share ip thing where multiple people have the same IP, so lets maybe do the code?

The utlimate thing to do is to remove the ability to post when unregistered. I think forum without it are just fine.

The IP BAN is a bad idea

The point is that it only prevents unregistered posting and has no effect once you register.

I am beginning to have doubts about the usefulness of an I.P ban, Mostly the roving spambots will only visit once.

Looking at the I.P List (How many accounts have posted with this I.P), Spambots do not show up with multiple accounts - So I think that the authenticitation code will be our best solution.

Kornel, Please do something about this or delegate it to someone on this forum with experience in modifying forums.

Ok, I know that I am double posting against my standards, But seriously. Something has to stop now.

I have just deleted two spam threads and a post, Fortunatly the bots do not get past registration but the anom-posting is letting them run wild.

This needs to end now

Please Kornel, I implore you to either disable anom. posting or add an authenticication technique for unregistered posts. Preferbaly the latter but beggers cannot be choosers.

EDIT: Thats it! I cannot take this any longer, A spambot just posted 8 messages in a row.
Stop this NOW
