 Before him 314 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 273 of those were killed.
 21 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
 And 9 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
 Is he immortal? 11 souls claim to have killed him...
 1 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
 10 killed the bastard and survived.

After dozens of attempts whiffing before level 10, was nice to finally get the ball rolling on a AoMC run.  Took a couple breaks before Arena, Wall, Mortuary, and JC, so the time's a little inflated.

Two major tipping points colored the gameplay: first being finding a plasma rifle, second being one too many power mods on it.

Plasma Rifles in AoMC with Triggerhappy(2) and Son of a Bitch(2) will one-shot anything short of an Arch-Vile.  This was good, and easily attainable without relying on the RNG.  The AdvTech pack was icing on the cake, along with the Firestorm pack enabling large-scale Vile slaughter.  Firing madly into the darkness was the name of the game.

However, apparently monsters get knocked back when they receive a solid hit of 12 damage.  This was achieved with two Power Mods and SoB(3) sometime around Level 6 Phobos Hell, giving me a (1d9+3)x(8+2) damage profile.  Things got much trickier when shooting at angles, since the first shot would push monsters out of the line of fire if they weren't against a wall.  I had a good laugh and worked around it, but Arachnotron caves were much more tense for a while.

No invulnerability near the Mortuary, but it was simple enough even with the knockback going on.  Firing into the center until everything stopped screaming was downright pleasant compared to my AoB or AoSh Mortuary runs.

Had some spare envirosuits and did the Lava Pits on level 23, got the Phasewalk Armor.  Normally that wouldn't be much of a find, but level 24 proved otherwise: two invulnerability globes by the exit to the Cyberdemon.  Slapped on the Phasewalk Armor for the move bonus, sprinted to the stairs as the nuke went off, got to JC with invulnerability remaining.  Didn't even have time to use the BFGs, the plasma rifle was too powerful.

Too bad about the remaining Barons, probably could've been a YAAM if I had a second nuke.  Still nice to get my first platinum, leaping me up to Major rank.  Still got a ways to go before shooting for Diamond, Iro(3) was very nice insurance.

Lesson Learned: Keep your Plasma Rifles under 12 damage for AoMC!  :)

Here here. I've had that problem, and I mentioned it in my guide - too many power mods completely ruin a rapidfire weapon. :)

Haha, good to hear I'm not alone.  The guide's a good one, the corner-firing tips helped out tremendously on my ability to reliably clear Hell's Arena even when it's spawned on Level 2 and I'm lacking a Combat Shotgun.

@Gooselord: The Combat Translocater was semi-useful in a different run, using it to teleport the Cyberdemon away when needing to reload the BFG, and to teleport Barons away from Large Health Packs, but for the most part it's usually quicker to just kill the monster in question.

So would every 12 damage shot knock enemies back? I guess if it hadn't been AoMC, that wouldn't have been such a problem!
