Pause Button?
« on: January 18, 2010, 21:41 »

I know I've had other obligations pull me away from a game in the middle of a level, causing serious padding of the real time the game took.

Would a pause button be feasible, to stop the timer for a while when unable to save the game (either on N! or in the middle of a level)?

I don't know if that would negatively impact the time-based badges, maybe limit it to one or two pauses per level to prevent spamming to save time on the badge?

Time-based challenges have ridiculous limits anyway (<15 minutes, <1hr etc) so a pause button is not really necessary.  As for N!, there is never a save game option, if I recall correctly, which makes Ao100 on N! more than just a small pain in the behind.

I was thinking, is 15mins really that ridiculous if you play AoH? A bit more than a minute + some luck should do for those 31337 guys out here :p
But indeed I don't really see the point of a pause button either... seems a bit odd for a turn based game.

Is anyone genuinely surprised? The badge reqs. do state that it must be a standard game.

I thought that '@' and 'Q' screens stop time. Am I right, K?

Why you'd come to that conclusion baffles me.

Though an interesting edge case would be to leave a game running for more than a week and seeing if the timer overflows.  >.<

SDL's GetTicks will only overflow after around ~49 days. Not sure if that's what he's using for a counter.

And then you'll have 49 days of free playing, doing anything and time doesn't count.

2Laptop:A wild guess. I have Intuition(2).

You're assuming the uptime of the Windows machine is that long (most people play it on Windows anyway).

Actually, only the game you were playing when the variable wrapped would be effected. Finish time - Start time = total time only gets affected when it's 10 thousand minus 48 billion trillion.
