DoomRL in Linux with wine(wineconsole)
« on: November 25, 2006, 13:50 »

I never knew about wineconsole before, maybe it's a feature of newer wine, but now I can run DoomRL in linux pretty much perfectly.

MIDI doesn't work for me though, so if you have trouble, comment out any MIDI music in doomrl.ini. I'm using mp3s and it's working great.

To run it I use

WINEDEBUG="-all" wineconsole doomrl.exe

Well you won't have to anymore :). DoomRL compiled under linux with SDL_mixer support (instead of the old FMOD). In the next few days 0.9.8.5 will be out. A linux version will follow shortly. Still it's nice to know that it works :D.

What's the refresh rate BTW?

BTW, set HIGHASCII to False in the ini-file. Apparently you don't get all the floor tiles.

My vertical refresh rate is 75hz (But I have an LCD)
and the sound does get choppy or staticy sometimes, so native linux support with SDL will definitely be nice

After I turned HIGHASCII off:

0.9.8.5 runs fairly well, music (even mp3) doesn't work (it won't run if I have it enabled in doomrl.ini), but sound does. The new stuff is awesome. I'ma just.. wait ... patiently for the native version.
