Everything was going so well. Isn't that always the way? I cleared the Mortuary for the first time, got myself a quickloader and an Anti-Freak Jackal, and was so close to killing Cybie. Then some Mancubi got in the way. I thought being out of sight while reloading would keep me safe, and I had plenty of health, but apparently they can kill you whenever they want. I'm still not sure how I got hit.

Which square did you last willingly place yourself in? DoomRL's line of sight code has some ugly quirks and asymmetries.

Welcome to the forums! It's simply frustrating to see a great run go down in flames because of unexpectables.

There are some quirky sight issues in DRL (which probably won't get resolved soon, being an engine fix instead of a balancing one) allowing you to see enemies when they can't see you (and vice versa). So it's possible it saw you at just the right angle. Another possibility is that you entered the mancubus's field of vision and it got a clean shot that way: with the simultaneity of events it can appear as if you didn't move at all (due to knockback) but took damage nonetheless.

I see you took the DPS route over Gun Kata. A lot of people have been doing it lately, which makes me think that MGK needs some sort of buff if players who aren't even accustomed to what's better aren't choosing it.

Also, a question:

  On level 13 he witnessed the Wall.
  He broke into the Wall, but gave up against the overwhelming forces.

Was this a result of phasing or did you find another way to crack it open?

I see you took the DPS route over Gun Kata. A lot of people have been doing it lately, which makes me think that MGK needs some sort of buff if players who aren't even accustomed to what's better aren't choosing it.

I've been thinking about this. This isn't really the thread for it but I was thinking some kind of strafing mechanic could be powerful and thematic. You could remove the accuracy penalty for running, and/or let players run and gun on the same turn.

I... have no idea. I just don't remember. It's possible this is one of several runs I got lucky with a phase device. I definitely didn't find the Jackal that early.
