[VIDEO] DoomRL Tutorials (pre 0.9.9.6)
Game Hunter:
I took a look at the alternative strategy and yeah, it's definitely better in terms of avoiding death. On UV it may end up taking a lot of extra ammo (especially with rapid-fire), but it's certainly safer. I will try to make an extra video showing up this tutorial and accredit the two of you for independently discovering it for yourselves.
Note that the usefulness of attacking the center directly (albeit carefully) may become less effective once we see AI changes following the next version's release. Obviously I'll be making videos regarding changes in strategy if any issues do, in fact, arise.
EDIT: New video's up. This week is a look into Hell's Armory, a quaint little lava-side village populated by hellish monsters and loads of gear. The tenant won't be happy if you try to wake him up! (It's a pretty easy floor though.)
General Patton:
Copied-and-pasted from my video comment.
I've got another shotgun strategy, but it's only valid in the beta and probably the next version. Double shotgun (focused or super shotty if possible) with a shell box for dramatically reduced reload time. Wait in the northeastern-most room, in the south middle tile, with the door closed. When he eventually does teleport in, you will have to take at most 1 step to be in melee range (less damage and not plasma) and have a wall preventing knockback. From that range, you only need a few shots.
Game Hunter:
I won't be able to get a new tutorial video out today, but I WILL try to do something, so look for a video nonetheless. Expect the tutorial sometime Friday.
EDIT: New videos are up.
This week is a lesson in TWO different floors: Halls of Carnage and Phobos Hellgate. Neither are particularly challenging, so they both go by pretty quickly, but that doesn't mean you can't learn anything from them.
Game Hunter:
New video's up.
Finally reaching Phobos Hell, this week is a peek at the Unholy Cathedral. Pretty sweet level with a sweet layout and sweet music and a super sweet reward, but it's pretty much impossible unless you know what to expect. All the more reason to watch these tutorials, I guess!
Simon-v:
Hah. Thanks for the mention, man.
