Tried urxvt alone, inside of tmux, and xterm alone, tried using different $TERM variables, and tried installing additional sdl libraries, none of the above has fixed anything.

Nevermind, this is the same bug as one I found earlier in the forums: The game elicits no useful error messages if there's any misspellings or other errors in your keybindings.lua (I suspect colors.lua does this too).
