Wanted to ask for a long time - i dont understand whats the point of having water in the game.
What exactly it is for ? Is it slowing you down or something ?

Well it is just a flavor feature, just like people ask for flavours in the Rooms!!! topic :). Anyway, in the beginning I had an evil idea of adding a Quakelike Lightning Gun... you can imagine the rest :-P

It could rust your armor like in Nethack?  Rusted armor has a 75% capacity.

Woah, many people would kill me for that :D

Not to mention that it would make water more feared than lava! And people would have to take off armor each time they pass water -- which would be a pain in the ass IMHO...

Yeah, you're right. :(

Could just slow you down a bit, then?

Yeah, rooms are rooms - water is water. Should slow you somewhat.

This is a more vialable option -- although the lightning gun idea still tempts me :)

Hn.  Water was always only a surface thing in Doom, so if anything got rusty, it'd be boots.

And what would the Lightning Gun take, if implimented?  Cells or a new ammo type?

1. You can't run in water.

2. You can't push barrrels in water (is somewhat annoying if you lever-water an entire level with narrow one-space corridors).

=> Generally annoying. Just keep in in there 8-)

Suggestion: maybe being hit by a fireball / fire column on a water square could reduce the damage somewhat, non?

EDIT: 3. Walking on water is generally noisy and may alert demons to your presence :-)

Add a swimming skill as in Adom, make each step you take in water an instadeath possibility from drowning, make your inventory drench and needed to be wrapped on a waterproof blanket.

Just kidding :P
