[E|YAAM] Newbie's Delight

If you hear imps behind the door, you can open the door and back off 3 tiles from the door, this way you're able to shoot the imp twice when he'll appear in the door, it will have to first get out of the doorframe (he can fire at you, but he cannot see you - or vice versa, while you can fire at it), then he'll have a chance to attack. You can do the same with zombies, just place the gift (heavily used armor, small medpack, or a substitute) 2 tiles away from the door. They will eventually see it and start approaching it, come through the door - surprise surprise! Medpaks work better since if a zombie is already wearing armor, they won't be attracted by another one.

Not really helpful on AoB...
In any case, if you are allowed a shotgun, you are able to one-shot any early formers or imps, so I don't see the advantage. IMO it's best to stand right next to the door, so you can cornershoot approaching enemies, which gives you much more free shots. If some imp decides to be clever and walks where it can shoot at you, simply close the door hive him a warm welcome when he opens the door.
LuckyDee:
Giftdropping works pretty well indeed, as does retreating - provided you have somewhere to retreat to of course. I think the last couple of times, although I could have been more careful, I had pretty bad luck with the spawning as well, being dropped of in the middle of levels, large open areas, enemies on all sides. I'll give it another try though, it sounds really interesting, and promises to be an entirely different approach than the shotgun/Intuition combination I've employed on the last couple of runs.
ih8regin:
In case of AoB, since you can't fire, just stand 1 tile closer so you won't get shot when the enemy will stick its ugly face out of the door. You close the distance, he hits you for 1d3 minus armor, you attack, BAM, even no corpse (handy on N!)
LuckyDee:
Eh? Blowing them ass-over-backwards with a shotgun at point blank range will leave a corpse, but using your fists you'll actually leave none? Boy, does Doomguy have issues.
