[N!|Ao100|99%|48|YASD] Death by boredom
« on: November 29, 2012, 02:32 »

I think I'm getting the hang of this. This build seems really promising. I took juggler first, to have some edge before MVm got online and both finesse and juggler are very useful, so it's not a waste. Once I got Vampyre, I could (I'm ashamed to admit) farm the last remaining enemy on each level for max health. The only problem I had (and I always have it with Vampyre) is that my armour kept getting destroyed. For the first part of the game, I was switching a dueling armour with two P-modded reds and whatever else I found laying around at the moment. At some point I stopped caring and ran around naked, charging into pretty much anything without any fear of death. I even charged towards mancubi along a wall a few times and survived, which unfortunately made me even more suicidal. And it worked! I rarely had to pop a medkit, TaN 3 serving as an unbreakable armour which I didn't find.

I knew I won't be able to finish the game all at once - I died at around 1AM - but I decided that I want to reach level 50 before hybernating my computer. The last 15 or so levels got kinda boring though. I felt invincible, I didn't have ammo or armour to worry about and I wanted to get it over with as fast as I could. Oh, and I had a trigun for nuking. That sped it up a little, but not enough.

When I died, I was like "Huh. So the guy can die. Interesting." I wasn't even angry or sad. Weird.

In any case, next time I try this, I'm taking a break after 40 levels no matter what. And I'll hope for some indestructible armour. And a chainsaw, that would be nice.

Oh, one more thing - I see there are only 7 enemies on the graveyard shot, and I'm missing 8 for YAAM. I blame the nightmare versions - since they are silent, it's quite easy miss them I guess. If I ever pull this off, I'm not expecting a true YAAM, but damn, this is 99,74% enemies killed. That should count =)

Oof, well, I'll be sad on your behalf, then.  :|  I know the frustration of dying after building up my character to a state when he "should" be able to win easily.

I think I was getting a pissed off at the character for being able to do the stupid things he did. When he died, I almost thought he had it coming. Also I guess I'm going a little crazy from this game =)

Edit: And I was glad that I at least got my second experience medal. I hate it when I have a fairly good run and don't get any worthwhile rewards.

The next version is going to address the boredom of later Ao100 levels :)

That is certainly good news, but at the same time it means that if I manage to make it before the next version, I'll have to reset and do it again =(

Edit: I know I don't *have to* reset, but it feels right.

Klear, could you record your gameplay with DOSRecorder? I want to see the tactics you use.

OK, sure. But don't expect anything spectacular. My main tactic is "camp in a doorway and wait for extreme lengths of time".

Edit: Also, it's been ages since I played without tileset, but I think I still remember it =)

Well, some higher power has sent him to hell. I think it is a safe bet he was quite an asshole. Hmm.. I'd better change the default name to something other than myself, or I'll definitely go crazy.

Well, it seems basically the same tactic as mine. Except maybe for the fact that I tried AoB N! 100% kills.

If by tileset you mean graphic version, then no - please play in console. Thats why I asked for DOSRecorded game :) .

Yeah, I played with it a bit yesterday, though I didn't get very far. I need to get used to the ascii graphics again.

I'll post the first run where I manage to get at least to barons of hell. Might be a long recording though.

Edit: OK, here's a recording. I YASDed stupidly on level 2. Damn, I'm so not used to playing in ASCII =) I made quite some stupid errors, but it should give you a general idea of how I play. Once brute begins to kick in, I can finish pinkies on the spot, until then it's usually juggling them with shotgun and hoping they will die in a doorway. Nothing of that sort can be seen in this recording though, just imps and formers.
