1899 - The Hidden Hands of the Aether
Esther:
Josie carefully dragges the nightstand from the wall. If it's not underneath or behind it, she checks under the bed.
LuckyDee:
As soon as you move the nightstand, the rat shoots out from beneath it, passes under the bed and ducks underneath the closet next to the door.
Esther:
Josie gets on her hands and knees and looks underneath the closet to see if the rat is still there or if there might be hole.
LuckyDee:
It's too dark to see anything. If you listen carefully, you can hear its little nails clicking on the floor every now and then, as if it's pacing around, looking for a way out.
Klear:
Hugo waits for Josie to emerge back out of the room, weighted uncomfortably by the awkward silence. Eventually he decides to break it.
"I guess... maybe the bed isn't made, or something? Our Josie is very punctual when it comes to these things. You have to excuse her."
He coughs nervously and continues.
"So you've been able to make a deal with Albert after all, I see?
