I mean some upcoming new version?  Or maybe Jupiter Hell?  I've never seen anything with Mancubus caves before.

The answer is: bad build. If you take SoG, then you must take SoG 3. SoG3 is MUCH stronger then SoG2.
Also, taking Eagle Eye not a bad idea.
Speedloader pistol also good.
Playing technician is good for fast medpacks.
And for bruisers - unless you play weapon-limited challenge, rocket launcher can help, no matter which build you use.
For melee - again, if you not play AoB, ranged weapons still can help survive to Chained Court.
