Five is bad, sure, but with those traits and those mods you could have done it.  I've taken three, easily, and if I can kill three of them without them getting the chance to move or do anything at all, it's probably not that much more difficult to kill five.  Your error was in moving instead of firing and reloading, though the amount of ammo you had definitely wouldn't support vile-slaying in numbers anyway.  This is why I take 9 stacks of ammo with me in my AoMr games; I died once because I simply ran out of ammo and I'm NEVER planning on doing that again.  Mods and traits nearly make it so that armor and medpacks are unnecessary in medium difficulty anyway.

To add to what BDR said, that's way too much armor you're carrying. Consider that those green armors'd probably never come into use (that is, if you'd ever run out of all the rest, that 1 temporary point wouldn't likely be the thing to save you), and that you could also give up 2-3 of those damaged blue armors. That amount of armor's either for an AoB/I/Ms game, or when there's mostly nothing else to carry.
