« on: July 20, 2018, 10:19 »Oh it is my bad, I guess I was too tired yesterday. Somehow I messed up the abyssal plains line with the wall-containment mortem message. :DOn level 12 he romped upon the Abyssal Plains.
Yeah, I know I should play more DoomRL. :D
He barely escaped the trap set for him.
The corpse management stuff was usually too tedious for me, I think thats why I sticked with UV. But doing that properly for 24 levels requires skill and patience, so that makes this effort worthy!

Nice win! :D I just realized from your other post that you're going from your first N! win to trying to win N! ArchAoHu. That's quite an ambitious leap; I hope you know what you're getting into! :o
As for the run, the nice thing about Army of the Dead trait is it helps you save ammo, especially if you combine it with SoB, which makes it extra devastating, so that probably helped you save ammo a bit while using the Jackhammer. That being said, it looks like it would have done you some good to hang around some sergeants and let them revive a few times to replenish your shells. (Very impressive med pack collection, though)
And yeah, N! is a very different kind of game. It makes UV feel relaxing in comparison. :)

Yes I may be a little way off completing ArchAoHu, but I think with a little (or more likely all) luck on my side it is doable. I have found that all the berserks you get on the Chained Court are what has to carry you through the Hellgate. I can't get past the bruiser brothers without being berserk. Little things you can only learn by playing that challenge a lot. Cant get beyond halfway through the second episode, but persevering. And enjoying the process of playing, not just doing it for the sake of getting the medal.
Really appreciated watching your ArchAoHu run. I learned a lot. The biggest thing I learned was how consistently patiently you move. I am patient in combat, but then I think an area is clear, or I am safe to cross a room quickly, and a sergeant steps into a doorway, and I get my head blown off before I can react. Gotta be disciplined with every move, not just when I am in combat.
And yes UV used to feel hard to me. Now I almost can't believe how easy and relaxing it is.
After spending a week playing ArchAoHu, even regular nightmare seems easy. Well not easy, more... really hard as opposed to insanely hard.

Hah. Yes you are correct. I was forgetting that you can both reload and fire in the same movement. So a focussed double shotty would be very effective, as it can knock back even heavy enemies like barons at long range. Hmmm.
May have to revisit Gunrunner.

How did I find gunrunner?
I had never used it before, so just for fun, I gave it a shot. And in truth, my thinking was that it would only be good with a powerful weapon equipped. Say a nanomachic rocket launcher or a nanomachic tristar blaster, nanomachic BFG perhaps? Possibly a jackhammer. High powered weapons that will knock enemies back out of return fire range. For tough enemies, I feel that gunrunner would be not so great with just regular shotguns/plasma guns/ chainguns etc etc. Reason being is that so much of this game is that you kill your enemies before they see you, and ideally before you see them. Gunrunner requires you to actually see your enemies, which reduces its usefulness massively, as they can shoot back as soon as you enter within range. not what you want when dealing with Archs or mancs. Good if you get a missile launcher, but even then, reloading every 4 shots is not ideal.
And yes I know now you can transfer your player stats between versions. IIRC, I think I did more my stats from the ascii version to the graphical version? Maybe. But then I uninstalled it and wasn't planning on coming back to it. Wish I had kept those stats. Didn't have many high end medals/badges, but given how much work getting any of those is, would have been worth keeping it, looking back.

Nothing major to report. Malek's armor is awesome, even against high tier monsters.

I have been playing this game for years, even way back when it was pure ascii. but until I started lurking on these forums, I never seriously considered doing nightmare runs. Its funny how you adapt to the difficulty of it, and now, after a couple of months of playing nightmare consistently, I have adapted to the stress of not having the luxury of corpses staying dead. It really is a beautiful way to play.
To answer your question, no I haven't cleared the wall/containment area on N!. but I will, as my next goal is to complete a standard N! game, so hopefully on one of the runs I will have a rocket launcher and a bunch of ammo to clear those corpses and blow up the wall/barriers.

Been lurking here for a while now, thought it was time I posted something.
To wit:
First ever completed Nightmare run!
Not super amazing compared to the skills of some of you guys around here, but quite happy nonetheless, managing to snare the shottyman Diamond and Platinum badges.
P.S. I was lucky enough to find a Jackhammer on this run. And I gotta say, a Jackhammer with the Army of the Dead perk is a thing of devastating power. Gotta watch that ammo consumption though...

Soz for the noob question, and soz for doing the necrothread thing, but I am not sure where else to post this. I have been playing 0.9.9.6 since it came out, and love it, and have got lots of ranks, badges, completed challenges etc etc. I would love to jump up to 0.9.9.7 but I don't want to lose my character stats etc.
So. Is there a way to transfer all my stats between versions?
