Hello
I could give a hand with graphical UI things, tiles and such.
I am after art university (painting) and was doing quite a lot small graphics like icons, tiles etc.
Fixed some graphics of some games that I've found bit lacking.

And I love pushing those small graphical tiles to their top.

Got nothing better to do atm so I can think of this.

ADOM has only the bare semblance of a plot, and even that gets a bit old the umpteenth time you do it.

All the dialogue would make different game. Some people like it, some not. There are quick roguelikes and longer ones but still RPG like are missing (since ADOM has only semblance of a plot), and dialogues always give you more options for a different game and plot when playing again. Generaly I imagine RPG with roguelike enviroment.

You are right. However I was speaking generaly, rogulike thinking, for other or potential games not DoomRL or other and anything specific.

Why is dialogue needed? ...

Well, from that point of view it may be not needed. However, my point is that there are nice story based games, so if you make good story and add anything that roguelike has to offfer then you may come up with something interesting. Besides, if there is no such roduelike yet, just like you mentioned, then maybe we still don't know how would it work out. General thoughts on roguelikes.

Anyways, by 'dialogue' I ment conversation like in RPG games, where you can answer different questions, intimidate or offer help, shift aligngment etc., and uncover the story.

I've noticed roguelikes tend to miss one very potential thing: dialogue scripts for some RP plot. Well, in comparision to lots of time and work put into making roguelike, adding some text scripts seems like nothing. Seriously, just take all those books and great RPGs.. everything is just about good story . If graphics and sound, mechanics,etc. are limited then text does have unlimited potential, ehm.. yes. Doesn't it ? Why not to add this into RL to make it different, more interesting ? Just thinking.

I think ammo is automaticaly unloaded when you drop weapon.

I had this idea, I wonder how would DoomRL look like if when after defeating last boss, dying, it pulls you, together with it, to one of the hell worlds. Now you are in strange, dark, wide world you don't know and you want to get out.. your ammo soon runs out and you need to use strange weapons and devices found there: made of bones or other unidentified weird material. It is strange world, you don't know where to go or what to do, or what you see.. *grin*

Angel of control

This challenge mode allows you to control whatever body you like. You may enter the body of slain enemy, getting it's strengths and weaknesses, like HP, armor, abilities, etc. You retain inventory, however can't use weapons, if the body doesn't allow too, except the innate weapons. Your traits apply.

Imp turned into seducing looking woman, and marine dropped the weapons and gave in.. expecting demonic encounter. Later to discover that it was actually male imp pretending the woman (women clothes, make up, etc.. you know). He shot the imp 'on sight' however, even though it maybe was little too late. Since then, he got +1 circumstance bonus to accuracy and damage against imps.
Joking of course.. it was not the the imp but demon.

Special levels would be a good place for the suggested unique monsters (which in turn could have randomized 'good' drops).
I like this idea.
