« on: October 07, 2015, 05:37 »My last one I had 2 SoB, 2 SoG, and dualgunner, and took out one of them before the other got in melee and just wrecked me. Rapid fire builds are good, but I can rarely make it to the midgame with them to get to the point where they actually work. Melee builds are fun, but completely unworkable, i usually die by the 3rd level.
The answer is: bad build. If you take SoG, then you must take SoG 3. SoG3 is MUCH stronger then SoG2.
Also, taking Eagle Eye not a bad idea.
Speedloader pistol also good.
Playing technician is good for fast medpacks.
And for bruisers - unless you play weapon-limited challenge, rocket launcher can help, no matter which build you use.
For melee - again, if you not play AoB, ranged weapons still can help survive to Chained Court.

Requests For Features / Re: Levers ideas

I only suggested "monster can activate levers by misfiring", when they shoot the player and miss/hit lever by explosion. Like, they can destroy barrels. I did not said "monsters can activate levers when they want". So, such situation is possible only if monster and the lever in sight, and can be avoided - there are few turns before monsters do anything.

Just now, activating lever (outside of Int/special levels) not worth, because risk is greater than award. How possible to change them?
1) In original Doom, there was levers, which was activated by attack. How to implement them in DoomRL? Simple: if somebody, probably a monster, destroys dangerous lever, that lever activated. Like, mancubus shoot, destroys a lever, and 3 more mancubi summoned.
2) Another idea: instead how levers work now, make them impassable objects, which activated by trying to move in/attack, like doors. So, any enemy can activate them by accident. Anyway, at original levers usually were on walls, not in the middle in room.
3) Vaults. Is it possible to replace their doors by levers? (see 2) And, if that levers activated/destroyed, then entire wall fades. Seems doomish?
4) One of lever functions in original was to get rares, like Megasphere. In DoomRL, probably it is possible to make a lever, which get a random item somewhere in the room? With, probably, small chance of mod, so lever-gambling becomes more interesting.

So, I had seen Dual Angels and ask "Can I get that diamond?" I can.
Overconfidence means I only need survive 1 level before UC; and Max Carnage makes almost everything easier. So, I fought 1st level, gained 2 level-ups (for speed), than defeated UC (killed souls, lure demons into lava, and knife-throwing Angel. And get badges.
And I still not defeated HMP in this version.

Now seems like It's the easiest level (only City of Sculls was easier). Tactical shotgun + Shottyhead + AoMC - they had no chance.

True, VMR packs will give you rockets at best. There's plenty of shells and bullets lying around, though, since there are also packs of Viles with formers (which allows for respawning ammo) and will supply just about anything else you could need.
But it means that I must use weaker weapons, when with Ammochain I can plasma everything. And rockets - they destroy a loot (not counting other disadvantages), so they need a much more skill, than Ammochain.

Still don't see it. With pack of monsters, accuracy becomes less important. You can miss one monster but still hit other. And in later game - agility mods are common, so why not do some modding?

How it's possible? Later game enemyes either don't carry ammo, or carry rockets, which are less useful. There are Arachs, but it's only 20 cells, and I need plasma to kill them. Where is ammo?

Your guessing is wrong. Just finished UV standart, AoMC, AoLT, Ao100 and AoHaste, all with MAC.
