Next version of DiabloRL is almost ready -- however due to many internal changes it needs a lot of testing! If you're a DiabloRL fan and want to help out, please post a request to join the DiabloRL beta team, and gain access to the beta versions! People willing to commit time for testing (one game daily with a report would be enough) are mostly welcome!
Join the beta team now, and help shape DiabloRL!
What if I'm a Diablo and DoomRL fan, but never played DiabloRL? Can I join? :)
Quote from: ZZ on April 09, 2010, 10:32If non-supporters are accepted, then I'll join too.
I think I can support my idea here too.
I'd gladly do some testing. Assuming play time is similar to DoomRL per game, and not comparable to Crawl, I should have no problem playing a game daily, as I already devote a few hours to roguelikes each day. Not familiar with previous versions, myself, but I imagine that doesn't matter in this case. Regardless, I hope to have a chance to help out here.
I'll volunteer as well. It'll be interesting to see how it develops.
Diablo rl is being worked on again YEAHHHHH!!!!!!! Although i would love to be a beta tester i doubt i could help with all the dying i would be doing.Wait...I just realised how old this thread is R.I.P Diablo RL.*face-fucking-palm* I just realised this thread is new damn my terrible observation.
Woow DiabloRL is back!? Can I join plz? Huge DiabloRL & DoomRL fan inside.
Well, since a lot of guys here are familiar with Diablo, just a little... little off-topic for all of you [;

I would want with ranting testing as well
I'll give this a thorough testing, if I may.
Hi,
Sign me in, please :)
And good luck.
I'd like to give this a go as well. I spent a good amount of time playing DoomRL and various other roguelikes. I do enjoy me some Diablo as well.
I would very much like to test this game. Thanks in advance.
I would like to participate :) !!!
Sign me up folks :)
I'd like to help test too!
I'd like to help. Sounds like fun.
I've love to help beta test this. Still in need of volunteers?
I'd like to participate too!
I'll help if you're still accepting testers
You've got my time. Sign me up if demanded.
New forum member, but really interested here. Could I get in on that beta please?
Likewise here. I have some experience with both playing and making roguelikes, I'd be glad to try this out and help with the testing. Sing me up!
I wouldn't mind giving an inspection as well. May even be tempted to follow along with the original Diablo to test for likeness.
Happy to help test as well, if any are still needed.
I've updated the list of Beta testers -- people with no activity were removed, 2 next people that have expressed interest were added (S.K. Ren and Silhar). There's no reason to post here just to get the beta downloaded -- if you're interested in that, wait for the official release -- if you're willing to play the game as a *tester* not a *player*, and report your findings, or at least comments, then the position's open.
I would enjoy the chance to beta test DiabloRL. I am an avid player of your other roguelikes, and have even mucked about using Valkyrie - though nothing serious as of yet. I can do a play session every day on most days, give or take a session a week. Thanks.
JysusCryst, reporting for beta testing.
Hi, I really like your games.
I would love to be a betatester.
(My reputation:
AlienRL 0.8, got it in 3 day finished... DoomRL never solved, kind a kinky)
Testing DiabloRL? Count with me! o/
If your willing to allow a non donator count me in.
I'd be HONORED to help! My brothers and I are BIG Diablo fans, and are eager to help test this next release.
I Love Diablo, I always loved MUD/RL.
DoomRL and DiabloRL are realy fun, would love to help in anyway.
Rather than merely help betatest it, I'd like to help develop DiabloRL. (I already have FreePascal installed and a checkout of the svn repo, note.)

Me too! I added support for the original Diablo sound effects but haven't received any reply from the development team yet. Maybe they are on vacation...
If you need more testers, please sign me up!
Hey, I've played Diablo for 7 years. I also love roguelikes like ADOM. If I can help with betatesting I'd be pleased. My e-mail:
[email protected]. Cheers!
I'm huge fan of doom and diablo RL's - can i join ?
Reporting for duty - sign me up!
This interests me. I'd like to sign up to help beta test.
I would LOVE to be a beta tester for DiabloRL because its just one of my favorites!!! I also like DoomRL too! I play that ALL day!!! Check my youtube acc to see a fail of the game... I failed not the game tho!!!
Would be great if i could also test the recent beta and report back.
Played it last year nearly daily and had to wait so long for the "complete" Game.
Please please ~ have it done as fast as possible =)
Greetings
Tamago-SAN
Hi!
Some time ago i downloaded Diablo RL and I liked very much although I felt disappointed when I saw that it wasn't to be continued.
I've got a nice surprise when I saw that the development had been continued and I would very glad to help to test the Beta version.
I've played roguelike since... uffff....more of 15 years ago... Angband and a zillion of variants, Nethack, Dungeon Crawl, Incursion, TOME... and of course DiabloRL and DoomRL. My free time is not too much but I would try to play at least one game at day as you request. If you still need Beta testers please contact me.
Best Regards
Opsy
I would like to join the beta team, sign me in!
Can I get the download?
A bug of the previous version was that if a town portal scroll created a portal on the stairs, coming back from town made them disappear forever with the portal.
really? =o this may be kind of late, but im a huge rouge like fan, and a game programmer as well, i may not know the code but id love to help beta test, as im such a fan of both rougelikes and Diablo.
Hey I still haven't received the link for the beta version!!

Calm down... I suppose there's a reason why Kornel hasn't replied yet? Maybe you might want to PM him directly to check on the status of your request...
The official release is almost finished, so there's no need for more beta testing.
Keep your eyes open for the release!

I believe DiabloRL is open sourced. However, the maintainer is still Kornel.
can someone still send me the beta???
Sure. Take it. Everybody can get and test it. DiabloRL 0.4.5 RC1. Don't forget to post every bug you find.

Overall the Linux version seems okay, but I think we need to look into these:
1. High ASCII avoidance option should be needed at least for the Linux version.
2. Escape key needs to be entered twice for anything that allows it.
3. The screen doesn't redraw itself when the terminal is resized.
That's all I have for now. But bear in mind I'm no super beta-tester for DiabloRL. >.>

It's the same for DoomRL. I kind of got used to it.

Yeah, but that doesn't make it right though. I wonder why the Escape key needs to be dealt with that way. Is there some hidden thing I'm not noticing from terminal emulation?
Quote from: thelaptop on October 12, 2010, 18:42Yeah, but that doesn't make it right though. I wonder why the Escape key needs to be dealt with that way. Is there some hidden thing I'm not noticing from terminal emulation?
I suspect the terminal emulator considers Escape an escape key. Shocking, eh?
How odd. The game crashes with a `Critical Error: <TLevel/0/0> Level "level1" not found!` error when entering the Church, and neither the poisoned water supply nor wounded townsman seem to generate.
This happens only with the Linux build, as downloaded from this thread. The Windows version seems to run fine, even if looking somewhat ugly.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04, for all that's worth.
Simon-v: Is that the 32-bit version? Because I am running the 64-bit one and everything seems to be running okay.
It is indeed.
On an unrelated note, viewing the in-game help produces a bunch of `Unknown color key "." in "..."` warnings in the log file. It seems that the @ symbols are unescaped in manual.txt, which leads to them being invisible in the in-game help (this is regardless of game version).
@Simon-v I confirm this. I'll take a look how to fix this.
strange as hell... I tried grabbing a new clean revision of the source and rebuild it and it's the same. This could be something deeper here.
Linux 64-bit edition:
Access inventory with I, press C to access the character sheet, press C to close the character sheet. Now we can't do anything in the inventory except to press ESC to get out.
Bug?
Linux 64-bit edition:
The tavern sign is not visible when dropped. I'm not sure if it's the colour, or the choice of the character used (if it is high ASCII, it might not show up at all).

Ah. I'd like to file a request that an option be placed in the .ini file that allows us to choose if we want to use high ASCII or not.
I remember that even for DoomRL, when I was playing it on Linux, I kept the HighASCII option to false just to make things look correct.

Wait, wha-? I didn't realise that going down that stairs ended the game! And I didn't get to hit the Butcher...
No fair! >.<
That said, since we are still in demo-land (i.e. incomplete DiabloRL), I think it'd be nice to put up a "Continuing down this stairs will end the demo [y/N]?" question on the lowest stairs that will end the game. Otherwise, it would come as a big shock (as it is to me).
Something made me think of this game today and I'm very excited to see that it is being worked on again. I would love to help test if you still need more people. I could easily put in one game a day.

Grab the RC1... it is in a post on this thread. And test it! =D
[Ed: To make it more obvious, grab the Windows versions here (http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,3123.msg29598.html#msg29598) and the Linux versions here (http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,3123.msg29599.html#msg29599).]
Can we expect more than this Beta-Demo this year?
I mean - its a great demo - but i want to to bash monsters below lvl 2 ;-D
Me almost finished working on catacombs level generator and quests. After adding some more good features me would launch 0.4.6 testing.
Also me missing 0.4.5 rc1 reports. Want moar.
High time to make an official release, right Haruka-dono? :)
I've played 0.4.2, and I've been chatting with you-akane in IRC, I'll go ahead and jump on, grab the RC and start pounding away.
@Kornel: there's still an unresolved issue with 32bit compiled Linux version. 64bit works as it should, but 32bit has a nasty bug that makes it unplayable. I've tried recompiling a couple of times, and I grabbed a new checkout of the code and it didn't help.

Okay, I've managed to download the sources and compile also. Lemme help in trying to get this one sorted out... will do extensive testing in a couple of days when work is on a lower load level for me.
I am very interested in beta testing DiabloRL. I play DoomRL daily, and I could easily play a round of DiabloRL dialy and post a report. Please contact me via email or forum private message.
The version that needed beta testing has actually been released now! But it still needs testing. Please feel free to download it and play a few games and let us know what you think.
You can find the link on the diablorl site (http://diablo.chaosforge.org/).
Is it just me, or did this latest version break the sound functionality? I downloaded an earlier release within the forum and suddenly those extracted sounds worked... not sure if there were differences in the game itself. Being able to play with sound is such amazing fun that I'd love to do some testing over the holidays with it working again.
Edit: FYI, the download link for the version with sound on diablo.chaosforge.org/downloads includes the dlls and sound extraction utility, but I believe the .exe packed with both versions are identical. They are 677k, while the one I got from the user "you" off the third or fourth page of this thread has functional sound, and it weighs in at 1.85mb. Both .exes are marked version 0.4.5.3.
I'd love to be beta tester, and ofcourse access the newest updates before most else.
I give my word, that I will give all my help I can do. ( To the limit of sanity, ofcourse. )
That's pretty much it, I quess, Thanks.
Time to ressurect DiabloRL then!
Quote from: Kornel Kisielewicz on July 25, 2011, 16:09Time to ressurect DiabloRL then!
DiabloRL is back? Woohoo!! I'd love to be a beta tester. /sign me up
(Also, any chance of a Diablo2RL?)
I would also like to do some beta-testing for DiabloRL...not that I'm an expert, but I just played it two days ago and loved it, so I'd like to help support it.
Hi gaiz if there still room, i want try this too 8)...
I'll be a tester.
Because the current DiabloRL out is fun.
I'd like to be a beta tester, if there still any positions available.
If it means I can get past the 5 level cap.. I'm in!!
Since I was able to get past level 5 even though the game readme.txt said it would end at level 5, I''d like to join and explore! I killed Diablo many times, but I really want to pwn his Roguelike version :D
I would like to beta test on 32 bit linux if possible. :)
I have just downloaded 0.4.5 and started playing.
Great game - I played Diablo 1, Diablo 1 expansion pack and some of Diablo 2 on windows xp.
Now I am running on a HP Pavilion dv8010 laptop, running Linux jrlp01 3.2.0-31-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 7 16:16:45 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux.
I would love to contribute as a tester and possibly as a developer.
What would I need to set-up a development computer?
If you're wanting to develop, the code is open sourced and available on SourceForge (https://sourceforge.net/projects/diablorl/). You can take a look at the code there, but if you're looking to commit changes I suggest hopping onto #chaosforge on the Quakenet IRC. There are a few people there who you can chat with about your ambitions. As for here on the ChaosForge, I'll let Kornel field the beta testing side of things.
Many thanks for the information.
I will download the source code and have a look at it and see if I can understand it. After that, I will get onto IRC and see where I can help out.
Meanwhile I will continue playing the 0.4.5 version and see how I get on.
Don't play the age old 0.4.5 - I've added you to the beta tester group, try 0.5 BETA 4 -- it has a lot of bugs we would love to get help with!
Thanks for making me part of the beta test program,
I will download and start playing :)
Really love the game! Have played v0.45 very much; even tried an ironman run with all classes.
If you are still in need of testers I would gladly help.
Linux agartha 3.6.11-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 18 08:57:15 CET 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Would *love* to help test this sucker out. Been waiting years for DiabloRL to get more love.
Windows 7 64bit
Hey guys, are you still looking for testers? The latest version looks almost abandoned, updated last year?
I'm a huge Diablo fan, and I really love roguelikes (Currently on an Ao100 run in DoomRL).
If not, at least some general updates about the state of the version and when it will be released will be good.
I would loooove access to the latest 0.5 BETA 4. I've done software testing/bug reports previously, and I'm eager to dig in.
:)
I would love to get into the beta of DiabloRL, have been playing the 64 bit linux version but really wanted to play on my 32 bit linux only laptop as I have no real time-killers installed on it. Would be willing to contribute in any way needed to the project.
Hi. What's about DiabloRL? If you still need betatesters, I wanna participate in tests.
I like original Diablo by Blizzard. The first time I played DiabloRL several years ago. I was delight and I waited impatiently for the new version...
(Win7 x86)
Welcome :). However, don't play the current beta - within a few days there'll be a new one, with most of the bugs fixed!
