ASCII graphics for Doom

So... has anybody done that yet? Replace Doom's graphics, so that instead of zombiemen there are lowercase h's, weapons are brackets and the doomguy's face is now just "@"? Hell, you could even remake some of the special levels from DoomRL..!
Because if nobody did that before...
Klear has been possessed!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)Here's a door, a barrel, and a small health. It's so disappointing that it only gives you 1HP... and here I thought DoomRL was harder.
This is what pistol looks like, though I'll have to make it smaller. You can't see shit with it equipped. (Edit: fixed now) That red thing is a pool of blood.
When I was little, I always wished I knew how to get outside. I'm kinda ashamed I couldn't figure it out most of the times.
Two formers and a dead body. I'll have to make the formers bigger.
BTW, it's pretty much impossible to tell apart sergeants and lowly zombiemen, since there's quite a lot of shadows.
These two have pistols... I think.
Oh! And the red thing at the bottom edge of the screen might be ASCIIfied bullet impact, also known as blood.
Some random items. I have fists ready, and they are invisible. Obviously.
A couple of imps showing you how mirrored sprites can pose problems. It looks much worse on formers and demons.
Thank god most of the enemies will be horizontally symmetrical.

Ahhh.. at last! Exit.. uh... I mean stairs...
The trees look more like crosses, ready for crucifiction. And you didn't believe me that ASCII will be an improvement!

This is actually episode selection screen. The fourth one is invisible, not sure how I should call it.
I think I've spent more time trying to make the chainsaw look less like a wiggling pink dildo than anything else.
Ultimately, I've failed.
Shotgun is looking good, and so are barrel explosions.
Doom palette turns some blues into green, so this is what plasma looks like =(
You hear mechanical footsteps...
BFG 9000. There's nothing more manly than... wait, why is it pink?
With this shot, I wanted to show you how you can see enemies through other enemies, but the damn imp still managed to hide behind the Demon.
Download and installation:
Attached is the DoomRL.wad file with all the graphics and a .bat file which will allow you to run it, as long as you have ZDoom inside the Doom directory. It should work fine, but it's my first time doing something like this, so anything can go wrong.
I've tried to run it on vanilla Doom, but that just throws an error message. I can probably fix it, but it would be a major pain in the ass and as long as ZDoom works, it shouldn't be needed.
I've replaced all relevant textures and sprites present in Ultimate Doom, I think. It works just fine with Doom 2, but a lot of stuff is missing there.

But Doom with huge ascii graphics would look, erm... pretty horrible, I imagine.

Hehe... I actually stopped (well, more like paused) playing DF when I discovered DoomRL few weeks back.
Also, great! I was afraid somebody beat me to it. I've just about familiarized myself with some Doom modding tools and swapping the small lo-res sprites with even lower-res pseudo-ASCII sprites is going pretty well... I'll post some results when I have some results. That means soon.
