"Well, you took your sweet time," the Overlord said as you returned to the throne room. "I believe we should start off your career with a clear message to future heroes and those who would aid them. Here is your target..."
The Overlord raised his left hand, the gauntlet flaring up with blue light. On the other end of the chamber, the pool of water bubbled and soon formed into a sphere of water hovering in mid-air. The surface shimmered for a moment before presenting a picture of a quiet little village, one that seemed vaguely familiar.
"The town of Denach. They seem to have made a career of bringing together random individuals, getting them drunk, selling them overpriced weapons, and sending them off into the wide world under the pretense of fighting one evil or another. You might not recall the place too clearly, but that is where your own adventure kicked off. Now, the idea itself is laughable and was amusing for a time. However, they are starting to produce borderline-competent parties, as your own example shows. I should think it's high time you went back there and showed them what became of their heroes."
The Overlord lowered his hand, the water reverting to its normal form and splashing back down into the pool.
"Sack and raze the place. Send every building up in smoke, and slay any that try to stop you. Do leave some villagers alive, though - we want the news to spread, after all. Also, though I hope you don't need reminding, the correct order of action is pillage, then burn. No doubt they have a fair amount of gold stored up from fleecing adventurers like yourselves. Only fair you take it back, hmm? Now, as for additional orders... Mortis!"
"I am here, master," came a hoarse voice from behind the throne as a small figure stepped into view. It resembled the other goblins you'd seen before, but this one had webbed hands and feet (though the webbing itself was dried and shriveled), its skin was a bluish grey, and it was swathed in a dirty, tattered old robe. It also had a small scythe resting on its shoulder, and a pouch in one hand. The creature approached you, holding the pouch out for you to take.
"Thanks to all those heroes around the place, we were never able to set up a proper portal there. You will fix that issue. Once you are done razing the town, plant the contents of that pouch in the ground and stand well back. My portals can get you to within a reasonable distance of the town, but until you anchor a new one, it will be a one-way trip. Do not think you will be beyond my sight or control, though. Of course, I do not insist you charge in and attack the town immediately. I will leave the particulars to you, but I expect the town destroyed within a reasonable frame of time."
The Overlord settled back into his throne. "Unless you have any questions, my minions will show you to the nearest portal."
