Why cannot I carry it around, after all?
Most I can do is to take it to a lower level or two - as far as homing phases and luck permit.

And why cannot WK2/Scavenger disarm it? I know, AoRA and stuff.. BTW an AoRA nuke doesn't have to lie NEAR you at the level entry, so you still have a chance to explode.

I just thought that a pet or another doomguy that will fight for you is maybe even possible in the current mods system.
Hmm, I could try that.
Using a medpack only if friends are near would ask for a direction, like closing a door.

We spend a pretty emotional seconds looking at "You die!" message, like here: http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,1075.msg52631.html#msg52631
It made me think graphical version shoud have a Doomguy corpse, to, er, enhance the experience.
It could even be a two-step animation, like, you know, kneeling and falling. BTW.

I love using engineer for FIN-JUG-SOB-SOB as a starter because you can use any weapon and be effective regardless of what you find.
My rule of thumb is to go for a master trait ASAP, and use shotgun cornershooting and pushback until then.
If master trait path includes early SoB or EE, I could switch to chainfire weapons on trait level 2. Other than that, I rarely put a shotgun down: I switch to chaingun to save shells (normally need this on Arena), and to rocket launcher to break walls or when desperate.

Notable things about my run:

  • Onyx mod on Red armor was rather a desperate move (I was running our of armors in my 20s) than a weighted decision. Though, it turned out to be great for my play style (or rather, lack of skill): just tank on, sometimes forgetting to change armor or use a medpack. It went even better when I figured out it can wear more mods.
  • I spoiled the phaseshift armor on later levels, but it was an experiment anyway and I would lose any destructible armor in the nearest firefight.
    Necroarmor is great, but again I rather valued an armor's indestructibility.
  • A pity I found the laser rifle too late, I could have used the A mod slots of my plasma rifle for extra P and maybe more T.
    Though, T2 didn't bring my firing time under 0.33, and T1 with 0.44s/valley allowed 2 valleys in less than a second. This turned out to be sufficient to tank even 3 Arch-Viles + 2 Mancubi packs.
  • I never shot my BFG; it was a great battery anyway.
  • I used the plasma shotgun a couple of times, when I started near a viles+revenants+mancubi pack and needed to push them away.
  • The HMP Ao100 game gets pretty monotone after L25: mostly single damage type and Viles.

The high playing time is due to leaving my PC overnight twice.

A quick question: if I set a nuke and go down, does it count as killing all the enemies in the level? I didn't want to spoil my score experimenting.

It was somewhat unfair towards the monsters to find a Trigun.
The hardest part was the Phobos Anomaly, though I was lucky to get in with a little of Berserk Pack remaining.

3 homing phases and a invuln globe on Helll7... and homing phase didn't take me to the exit from Dis.
So I ran out of invulnerability in ~3 turns after I went down to 25.

If I only simply shot with the Trigun again.

And I know now it's impossible to have several master traits, even if the second one is Scavenger - that's why such a strange set of secondary traits. Otherwise I might have taken some Ironmen to charge the Trigun a couple more times... :D

In fact, graphical DoomRL 0.9.9.6 on Windows 7 x64 leaks CPU like hell.
Both my laptops, Acer and HP, have constant 25% CPU usage (on quad-core).
Text version doesn't leak, so I believe it's something in graphics library.

    are AMAZING addition to the game spirit.
  • It's unclear, if Primary/Secondary weapon skills increase damage or precision. If not, then I'm not sure they are worth it at all.
  • Why would I train Sidearm reloading, while I could train Technician and get much more profit?
  • I wonder why bodies lie almost in every place, but all the glasses are undamaged.
  • I didn't feel the need for painkilers - pain goes in 2-3 rounds anyway. I'd better spend these rounds firing.
  • Fixing Medical terminals is never worth it. There are so much more Medpacks than Multitools.
