Beta 8 is up!
The big new feature is obviously the two new Level 4 special levels, courtesy of brisbang! They're untested balance wise, especially on higher difficulties, so leave feedback so that we can morph them to a new addition to the DRL familiy! What follows is a change in how Assemblies are acquired- the new levels have basic assembly schematics, hells armory and it's counterpart have advanced ones, and vaults and house have master ones. You'll either get a missing one from that tier, or no schematic/item will be generated. Smarter bridge placement over rivers should also make a few people happy :) As usual there's lots of internal changes due to JHC development, be on the lookout for bugs! Speaking of those, a lot new bugsquishes have been done too - especially note that locked vaults will now appear in the game again! For the rest, read the changelog below, questions and especially feedback welcome! DoomRL 0.9.9.9 BETA 8 Windows LQ Code: [Select] 0.9.9.9 BETA 8 |

Since the OP of this thread was missing quite a few Diamond and Angelic badges (most egregiously missing all of Icy's badges), and there being no sight of Game Hunter returning any time soon, I decided to update this thread for all remaining unaccounted Diamond/Angelic mortems I could find from 0.9.9.7 that weren't listed before (as well as fixed a few errors, like Tormuse's and Sylph's Marksman Diamond runs being erroneously listed under Marksman Angelic). I contemplated reformatting it to be organized like I did the for the 0.9.9.8/0.9.9.9 Badge Hunters thread, but aside from all the work that would take, I thought I would be stepping on Game Hunter's toes too much and so left the organization as is. I also contemplated removing 2DeviationsOut's mortems since it has long been believed now that he blatantly cheated or outright fabricated his mortems, but for history sake, and so everyone can easily see for themselves how bullshit his supposed runs were without having to dig through the Post Mortem archives to find them, I left them up with an asterisk attached to his name.

I´ve been playing Jupiter Hell for 102,6 hours on Steam, and I finished It one time (hooray!) in easy mode, now I am trying in Medium Difficulty.
And I like It! First, I didn´t like the game, really, for me seamed too easy and simple, until I tried to advance in It, oh man, It´s difficult and no so easy! haha, even on Easy! Thanks for the game, It´s a bit addictive. I finished It with a melee weapon: ![]() |

Interesting, thanks for your help Omega Tyrant! - I'll leave that option disabled going forward and hopefully it will solve the problem. Shame to lose that run but I've so far only encountered the issue only once in about 90 runs I've played in this version so it does seem to be very rare at least. Too many messages on the same turn as level gained does seem a likely culprit (from my admittedly tiny sample size of one), that is what I was thinking of in this instance - that Hellwave blew up a lot of souls and likely a bunch of items at the same time on the same turn.

Playing Angel of Max Carnage on H, in City of Skulls. Throw the central lever to open the cages, deploy a Hellwave Pack, gain a level up from the resulting kills, select my trait and. . . the trait selection menu just isn't going away. No key press or clicking on anything will dismiss it. The only thing I am capable of doing is scrolling the map via mouse. Seems that my only option is to terminate the program as I can't even access the menu to quit normally. The trait selection lockup bug is a known critical issue in 0.9.9.8 whose true cause isn't known (if it isn't just random chance), but it's believed to be caused by the game trying to process too many messages during a level up. If you continue to play 0.9.9.8, disabling the "MorePrompt" in the config.lua file may help prevent it (I myself have only experienced the bug a single time and I have it disabled). The good news is that this bug has likely been fixed for 0.9.9.9 (I haven't nor has anyone else encountered it in all the beta runs we done of it), which is on the horizon for releasing soonish. I would recommend checking out the 0.9.9.9 compilation thread for bugs and other issues from 0.9.9.8 that have been fixed for it already, as well as other changes/additions made since then. |

Don't know what caused it, thought I'd post about it before heading in to the breach once more. |

So uh... I got the Purity Diamond badge! :) I figured that was worth sharing, even though I did it using the beta of the upcoming new version of Jupiter Hell. :) Full disclosure: I used an exploit that Kornel says is going to be fixed in the full release, so take my "victory" with a grain of salt. (Specifically, there's currently an exploit with Armorer 3 that lets you get unlimited scrap, which can then be used to get unlimited ammo with Reclaimer trait, though I'm pretty sure I could have found enough ammo anyway)
Anyway, this was my first time playing at Nightmare difficulty in a while, but I figured I wanted to be able to get good at gibbing enemies, so they couldn't respawn. Initially, I wanted to do this by combining Juggler 3 and Sustained Fire, so I could continue to get "sustain" bonuses after insta-switching weapons, (helped along by an early JAC 44) :) but then the manufacturing station on Europa 1 gave me a rocket launcher with "Specialist" perk and that quickly became my primary weapon instead, since it synergizes well with the Heavy's "Barricade" ability to do triple damage to everything. Bonuses from Focused and auto-calibration, and later Precise and an Ancient Armband eventually boosted it to be able to do up to 616 damage per shot, which is more than enough to gib anything, so nothing could stand in my way. :) Tormuse, level 15 Heavy Gunner, |
